10 Spring Cleaning Tips

As spring arrives, your home needs some annual maintenance and preventative care.  Take the time to check off some honey-do's or enjoy the fresh air.

1. As the leaves fell last year, they fall into your gutters and downspouts.  Take the time to make sure they are not clogged  before spring rains arrive.  Water not having a place to go sends it to unpleasant locations you want to avoid.

2.  Check your windows and doors. Do  the weather seals still look good? Make sure sunlight isn't peeking through any edges.  If we get a nice cool breeze, you may be tempted to open the windows and let the fresh air in.  Just make sure the screens are all in place and not in need of repair or replacement.

3.  Touch up the wood around the outside.  If possible, and the wood is in good shape, take a pressure washer and clean off the dust.   Once it's dry, apply a nice colored sealer or clear coat to help keep your fence or deck looking good for years to come.  It's  also helpful to walk around your home and inspect the eaves and siding for any signs of holes.

4.  Spray the yard for bugs.  As the kids want to play outside or you want to entertain, make sure any treat the yard for insects and bugs.  Most commercial products include a mosquito repellent which is always helpful in South Texas.

5.  Look up.  Check the roof for any signs of loose shingles or tiles and any vents which appear to be off.  If you're not comfortable, we can help get it inspected for you.

6.  Look around.  This time of year brings swarming insects. This includes the enemy of all wood, the termite.  If you see any indication of holes in your wood which you can't explain, call in a professional.  Our woodcrafters can come check it out before the exterminator just to see if your hunch is correct.

7.  Check the water.  Is your irrigation system working correctly?  If you shut it down during the winter, it's time to check it for any possible leaks and make sure it's covering your yard the way it should.   We'd be glad to send our landscaping crew to perform a free inspection for you.

8.  Check your concrete and asphalt.  The cold weather can age can wreak havoc on these structures.  Walk around and see if the porch, patio, driveway or sidewalks need some attention.

9.  Check out the paint job.  Does it look good? Does it need a new coat or just some touch-ups?  We'd  be glad to help with your curb appeal.

10.  Finally, schedule a preventative service call for your air conditioning.  When the temperature soars into the 100's, you don't  want to have an issue appear which could have been prevented.  Remember, change your filters monthly!

If you don't have time to handle these, just call Verturo.  We'd  be happy to help with any of your projects.  Check out our work here.
