5 tips for June Landscaping Work

June is almost over.  The summer heat has begun, so now is the time to prepare your yard for the harsh summer months.

Here are five tips to get you started:

1.  Mow your yard 2 ½ to 3 inches high and make sure it gets plenty of water (try and water enough to cover the yard with about 1 ½ inches of water per week.)

2.  If you follow the guidelines, now is the time to apply your second application of pre-emergent treatment to lawns to take care of pesky summer weeds like crabgrass.

3.  Pay particular attention to your trees and shrubs and treat them too with a chemical designed for boring pests.
4.  We know you're watering, but make sure it is penetrating the soil. Dig down with a hand shovel and make sure the soil is moist up to 6 inches.

5.  You can't forget your flowers and vegetables.  Fertilize them this month, especially the annual varieties.
