Easy steps in restoring wood

Do you own an antique chair that used to be majestic but has now become Fido's favorite chew toy? Well instead of getting rid of it, Verturo Construction would like to share some easy steps to help in the wood restoration process.

  1. If a leg or the armrest has come loose, get rid of the old piece and use special wood glue to replace it. Once the new piece is in place, be sure to prepare the wood by sanding it and then staining it to match the rest of the chair.
  2. If you had company over and they forgot to use coasters on your wooden table, don't worry! For any marks left by water or even light scratches, wipe a dollop of something with oily consistency such as mayonnaise. If the watermark does not come off with mayonnaise, you can also try rubbing lemon oil and rubbing it with a piece of steel wool. If all else fails, re-sand the stained/scratched piece and re-stain.
  3. When re-sanding and re-staining a scratch on a wooden piece, be sure to apply paste wax in order to seal everything in.
  4. After re-touching a piece of wood, always apply varnish at the end to keep it looking new.
