Tips to lower electricity bill during the summer

Living in South Texas, where it is practically summer all-year round, we often find it hard to catch a break with our home electricity bill. Yes, it is typically warm throughout the year, but the few months of summer are incredibly tough on our budget and wallet. Today, we are sharing simple ways to lower those crazy high electricity bills.

  1. Make sure that your air conditioner is working properly. If it is, keep it at a constant temperature (78 degrees). You can also reduce energy by turning the air conditioner off while you are not home.
  2. Always close shutters, blinds, drapes, and doors during the day to keep the sun out and thus the temperature within the home a little cooler.
  3. Clean air filters regularly to ensure proper functioning of the unit.
  4. Seal any cracks around window or door framing to avoid creating an escape for the cool air.
  5. Only use ceiling fans when someone is in the room. Avoid having them on all the time, because it does not lower the temperature in the home and it wastes energy.
  6. Spend more time outside during the day!
